What if solar panels could be smart panels?

In this video, CEO of SolarEdge Technologies, Guy Sella explains the technology that his Israel-based company invented to optimize electrical generation of solar photovolatic panels. By attaching a digital appliance to each solar panel and connecting each one of those devices to a software system, the technology can track inefficiencies in panels and detect rotten apples.

Sells explains in this video how a single malfunctioning panel can have a domino effect throughout a solar farm and cause other panels to shut down. SolarEdge technology automatically shuts down the malfunctioning panel to isolate inefficiencies.

GE has already invested in the company and welcomed it into its Global Research Center.

This video is part of the GE Ecomagination CEO Series, a video series featuring the inside story of how GE is helping find, fund, and develop innovative technologies. The full series, along with this video, can be found on GE Energy Financial Services' YouTube channel.
